An Evening on the Riviera with Olavi Paavolainen

An Evening on the Riviera transports its listeners to the Mediterranean sun of the 1920s and the pulse of modern Europe, combining music, drama and poetry. The performance is a description of search and enchantment; the journeys that gave birth to the landmark work of Finnish cultural history, Nykyaikaa etimäsä.

Narrator, historian-author Anna Kortelainen leads the audience into the lively letters and ecstatic poems of Olavi Paavolainen (Joel Mäkinen). Opera singer Reetta Ristimäki will also take the stage. The music is a compilation of art music and hit songs of the era; compositions by Poulenc, Debussy and Maurice Chevalier as well as Joel Mäkinen will be heard.
