Vocalist Julia Korkman, together with violinist Laura Airola and guitarist Aki Hauru, transports listeners back to the early 20th-century Paris with their enchanting French songs in the “jazz manouche” style.
Korkman has lived in Paris both as a child and as an adult, and the French children’s songs and folk tunes she grew up with have evolved over time into the melodies of Sydney Bechet and Charles Trenet, the poetic elegance of Françoise Sagan, and the iconic songs popularized by Joséphine Baker. Korkman interprets the songs in French, with Airola and Hauru—members of the band Django Collective Helsinki—performing in the style of Django Reinhardt.
