ROMANTIC MUSIC ON A DARK SUMMER EVENING

The concert opens with Sergei Rachmaninov’s Cello Sonata, which represents Slavic beauty and longing at its finest. In the second half of the concert, Ernst Bloch’s “Prayer” takes the listener into a momentary devout mental landscape.

The concert ends with Cesár Franck’s Sonata in A major for violin and piano, which has also been described as a journey into the tensions and contrasts of a relationship. The work is so beloved among musicians that it is performed on many other instruments in addition to the violin.
